Fear Me
Angst is geen fluistering, het is een kracht. Zij nestelt zich in spieren, in adem, in het zenuwstelsel tot beweging stokt. Tot tijd blijft hangen terwijl alles doorgaat. Tot alles tegelijkertijd te veel en te leeg is.
Fear Me is een voorstelling vanuit persoonlijke urgentie. Over wat er in een lichaam gebeurt als spanning zich vastzet. Over niet-weten. Over het gebied waar licht geen zekerheid biedt en donkerte soms bescherming wordt. Angst wordt niet geromantiseerd, maar toont de uitputting. De strijd om controle. Maar ook de kracht die ontstaat wanneer je blijft bewegen – zelfs wanneer alles in je zegt dat je moet stoppen.
In een krachtige urban contemporary danstaal ontstaat een fysieke dialoog tussen de spelers, waarin lichamen spreken waar taal tekortschiet. De spanning is voelbaar, direct en ongefilterd. De voorstelling volgt geen lineair verhaal, maar toont een opeenstapeling van momenten. Van breuk, van weerstand, van herneming.
over Dalton Jansen
Dalton Jansen is dansmaker en movement director, bekend om zijn gelaagde werk waarin persoonlijke en autobiografische verhalen verweven worden met maatschappelijke thema’s. Hij is onderdeel van de makerscommunity van Theater Rotterdam en artistiek leider van Stichting BlackBirds. Hij maakt voorstellingen waarin dans, tekst en muziek samenkomen om systemen van onrecht kritisch te bevragen. Zijn eerdere producties, zoals BIRDS en JAH!, zijn zowel emotioneel als krachtig en leggen verbinding tussen individuele identiteit, collectief geheugen en verzet. Zijn werk is altijd diepgeworteld in de persoonlijke ervaring, waardoor er een authentieke en urgente stem uit spreekt. Jansen won verschillende prijzen, waaronder in 2021 de BNG Bank Dansprijs, in 2022 de VSCD Jonge Zwaan voor de indrukwekkendste dansproductie voor de jeugd en in 2024 de Cultuurfonds talentprijs Charlotte Köhler.

Fear Me is a physical performance about fear, the kind that takes root inside you and takes over. About wanting to stay in control when every alarm in your body is already going off, leaving you in a constant state of high alert. In this raw performance, one actor and two dancers share the stage. Together they move between panic and hope, between stillness and explosion, between holding on and letting go. They are not searching for explanations, but for sensations, for lightness in what is heavy, and for weight in what seems clear.
Fear is not a whisper; it is a force. It settles into muscles, into breath, into the nervous system until movement stalls. Until time stands still while everything keeps going. Until everything is simultaneously too much and too empty.
Fear Me is a performance born from personal urgency. About what happens in a body when tension becomes fixed. About not knowing. About the space where light offers no certainty and darkness sometimes becomes shelter. Fear is not romanticised here. Instead, the performance shows the exhaustion. The struggle for control. But also the strength that emerges when you keep moving, even when everything inside you says stop.
In a powerful urban contemporary dance language, a physical dialogue unfolds between the performers, in which bodies speak where words fall short. The tension is palpable, direct and unfiltered. The performance follows no linear narrative, but presents an accumulation of moments, of rupture, of resistance, of recovery.
about Dalton Jansen
Dalton Jansen is a dance maker and movement director, known for his layered work in which personal and autobiographical stories are interwoven with social themes. He is part of the makers community at Theater Rotterdam and artistic director of Stichting BlackBirds. He creates performances in which dance, text and music come together to critically interrogate systems of injustice. His previous productions, including BIRDS and JAH!, are both emotionally resonant and powerful, drawing connections between individual identity, collective memory and resistance. His work is always deeply rooted in personal experience, giving it an authentic and urgent voice. Jansen has won several awards, including the BNG Bank Dance Prize in 2021, the VSCD Young Swan for most impressive dance production for young audiences in 2022, and the Cultuurfonds talent prize Charlotte Köhler in 2024.
