Oost-Berlijn, oktober 1989. De DDR is ingestort – maar Alex’ moeder heeft er niets van meegekregen, omdat ze acht maanden in coma lag. Wanneer ze wakker wordt, waarschuwen de artsen dat een schok fataal kan zijn. Om haar te beschermen, creëert Alex het oude Oost-Duitsland opnieuw in hun appartement.

Wat begint als een onschuldig leugentje loopt al snel uit de hand, vooral wanneer zijn moeder begint te herstellen. Good Bye Lenin! is een hartverwarmend, grappig en ontroerend verhaal over een zoon die alles doet om zijn moeder te beschermen tegen de waarheid – en haar laat geloven dat Lenin nog steeds regeert.

The successful open-air cinema of Breda is back. This summer, Sunset Cinema will once again transform ten unique locations into outdoor movie theaters. On Tuesday, September 2, Sunset Cinema goes international with Good Bye, Lenin with English subtitles. Take a seat on the inspiring, green campus of BUas in Brabantpark.

East Berlin, October 1989. The GDR has collapsed—but Alex’s mother has missed it all after spending eight months in a coma. When she wakes up, doctors warn that any shock could be fatal. To protect her, Alex recreates the old East Germany inside their apartment.

What starts as a harmless lie quickly gets out of hand, especially as his mother begins to recover. Good Bye Lenin! is a heartwarming, funny, and moving story about a son who’ll do anything to shield his mother from the truth—and keep her believing that Lenin still reigns.
