Movies with English subtitles and a free drink afterwards, that's Internationals Cinema Breda! Tampopo (1985) is considered a cinematic masterpiece. This Japanese satire on the spaghetti Western, a 'Ramen Western, is a film about everything that makes life worth living, but the sensuality of food really drives the film.

A determined widow running a small ramen shop in Tokyo seeks to transform it into the best in the city. With help from two truck drivers and a group of eccentric allies, she experiments, learns, and refines her craft, turning a simple bowl of noodles into a celebration of dedication and community.

Itami offers a wonderful glimpse into Japanese cuisine and interweaves the quest for the perfect noodle soup with humorous scenes from the life of a young gangster bon vivant. He eagerly demonstrates to his lover the erotic power of shrimp, whipped cream, oysters, champagne, and all manner of delicacies. The result is that Tampopo has become almost everyone’s favorite food film.
