In een wereld waarin de overactieve menselijke beheersdrift ons de illusie van controle opdringt, kan het leven soms gevaarlijk uit de hoek komen. Rouw, geluk, de nasleep van een gebroken hart, een gemiste kans, een geboren kind. Het leven overdondert. De neiging om ons af te sluiten om niet te hoeven omgaan met overweldigende gevoelens en gedachten, maakt ons hard en weerbarstig. De big clash lijkt onvermijdelijk.
In Vertical Blue slaat de golf om, worden we overspoeld, en laten we ons meevoeren door de onderstroom. We vallen diep de oceaan in, de adem ingehouden, maar het lichaam zacht. Klanken trillen voelbaar, performers zweten zich de diepte in, de omgeving transformeert tot een ongrijpbaar perspectief. De wereld spreekt, de zintuigen luisteren.
In een wereld waarin dat wat ons altijd overeind hield, onszelf en onze omgeving niet langer dient, maar juist beschadigt, doet Vertical Blue een radicaal voorstel: wat als onze reactie op crisis niet is om te vechten, te wapenen, te overmeesteren, maar om te luisteren, onszelf over te geven, wederkerigheid te creëren, en
opnieuw af te stemmen?
Vertical Blue nodigt uit tot overgave. We gaan diep duiken en loslaten. Niet uit onverschilligheid, maar om onze handen, ogen en gedachten te openen voor dat wat niet vastgehouden of gecontroleerd kan worden. We stevenen af op een harde reset.

Annemijn Rijk (1993) is choreograaf en filosoof. Met haar platform Body of Art maakt ze zintuiglijke, experimentele producties die onze status quo in vraag stellen en het publiek terugbrengen naar de kern van ons mens-zijn. Ze onderzoekt en bevraagt hoe we via het lichaam en de waarneming ons tot de wereld om ons heen verhouden.
Annemijn rondde de Bachelor of Choreography af aan de Fontys Dance Academy en de Master Philosophy of Humanity and Culture van Tilburg University. Als filosoof is ze gespecialiseerd in fenomenologie: De filosofie die stelt dat we de wereld tot ons nemen via de belichaamde waarneming. Dit zintuiglijk-fysieke aspect is duidelijk terug te vinden in haar werk(methode). In 2021-2022 was Annemijn Chassé Cultuurfonds Talent en kreeg ze de mogelijkheid zich verder te ontwikkelen en haar platform Body of Art verder uit te bouwen.

Body of Art/Annemijn Rijk presents Vertical Blue, an immersive performance in which you go on a freedive alongside dancers, light, music and a slowly changing environment.
In a world where the human urge to control imposes the illusion of control upon us, life can sometimes take a dangerous turn. Grief, happiness, the aftermath of a broken heart, a missed opportunity, the birth of a child. Life overwhelms us. The tendency to shut ourselves off so as not to have to deal with overwhelming feelings and thoughts makes us hard and unyielding. The big clash seems inevitable.
In Vertical Blue, the wave turns, we are engulfed, and we let ourselves be carried away by the undercurrent. We fall deep into the ocean, holding our breath, yet our bodies remain soft. Sounds vibrate palpably, performers sweat their way into the depths, the surroundings transform into an elusive perspective. The world speaks, the senses listen.
In a world where that which has always kept us afloat no longer serves us or our environment, but instead causes harm, Vertical Blue makes a radical proposal: what if our response to crisis is not to fight, to arm ourselves, to overpower, but to listen, to surrender, to create reciprocity, and to realign ourselves?
Vertical Blue invites to surrender. We are going to dive deep and let go. Not out of indifference, but to open our hands, eyes and minds to that which cannot be held or controlled. We are heading for a hard reset.

Annemijn Rijk (1993) is a choreographer and philosopher. Through her platform Body of Art, she creates sensory, experimental productions that challenge our status quo and bring the audience back to the core of our humanity. She explores and questions how we relate to the world around us through the body and perception.
Annemijn completed a Bachelor of Choreography at the Fontys Dance Academy and a Master’s in Philosophy of Humanity and Culture at Tilburg University. As a philosopher, she specialises in phenomenology: the philosophy that posits that we experience the world through embodied perception. This sensory-physical aspect is clearly reflected in her work and methodology. In 2021–2022, Annemijn was a Chassé Cultuurfonds Talent, which gave her the opportunity to develop further and expand her Body of Art platform.
