over de voorstelling
Met dans onderzoeken we hoe universele menselijke concepten en verhalen ons leven en perspectief vormgeven en inzicht geven in ons collectieve verhaal. Het project bevordert interculturele uitwisselingen en verrijkt danstalen, met eerdere samenwerkingen met artiesten uit Mauritanië, India, Senegal en Marokko. Club Guy & Roni zetten deze verkenning voort in samenwerking met het Australasian Dance Collective en muzikale partner HIIIT.
De band tussen de mens en de natuur is altijd fundamenteel geweest, maar moderne samenlevingen lijken deze connectie vaak verloren te hebben. Terwijl we troost zoeken in de natuur, bijvoorbeeld door te wandelen of de oceaan te observeren, kunnen we ook gefrustreerd raken door kleine ongemakken. Deze ontkoppeling heeft geleid tot een verminderd begrip van onze afhankelijkheid van de natuur voor overleving en welzijn.
In samenwerking met het Australasian Dance Collective onderzoeken Club Guy & Roni het contrast tussen nostalgie naar een tragere, natuurlijke wereld en de fascinatie voor opkomende technologieën die onze toekomst vormgeven. The Human Odyssey belicht verschillende culturele benaderingen van dit universele thema en creëert een dialoog die culturele perspectieven en artistieke diepgang verbreedt. Hoe hebben milieuveranderingen in Australië de relatie met de natuur beïnvloed? Kan technologische vooruitgang een harmonieuzer samenleven met de natuur bevorderen?

De artistieke leiders van Club Guy & Roni en NITE zijn afgelopen vrijdag tijdens de Nederlandse Dansdagen in Maastricht bekroond met de Gouden Zwaan. De jury prijst Guy en Roni om hun moedige en aanstekelijke manier van interdisciplinair werken, hun onderscheidende stijl van “XXL totaaltheater” met nieuw gecomponeerde livemuziek, en de manier waarop ze zichzelf telkens opnieuw uitvinden zonder hun authenticiteit te verliezen.

about the show
Club Guy & Roni's The Human Odyssey is a series of international collaborations with dance companies and music ensembles outside of Europe, exploring different aspects of the human experience while redefining the stories we tell about one another and the world around us.
Through dance, the project investigates how universal human concepts and narratives shape our lives and perspectives, offering insight into our collective story. Promoting intercultural exchange and enriching the language of dance, previous editions have featured collaborations with artists from Mauritania, India, Senegal, and Morocco. Club Guy & Roni now continue this journey in partnership with the Australasian Dance Collective and musical partner HIIIT.
The relationship between humans and nature has always been fundamental — yet in modern society, that connection often feels lost. While we seek comfort in nature — by walking in the forest or gazing at the ocean — we can also become impatient with its small inconveniences. This growing disconnection has weakened our awareness of how deeply we rely on nature for our survival and wellbeing.
In collaboration with the Australasian Dance Collective, Club Guy & Roni explore the tension between nostalgia for a slower, nature-bound existence and our fascination with emerging technologies that shape our future. The Human Odyssey highlights diverse cultural approaches to this universal theme, creating a dialogue that deepens artistic expression and broadens cultural perspective. How have environmental changes in Australia altered the human relationship with nature? And can technological progress help us live in greater harmony with the natural world?

The artistic directors of Club Guy & Roni and NITE were awarded the Golden Swan last Friday during the Dutch Dance Days in Maastricht. The jury praised Guy and Roni for their courageous and inspiring approach to interdisciplinary creation, their distinctive style of “XXL total theatre” with newly composed live music, and their ability to continually reinvent themselves without losing their authenticity.
