As the people of Iraq struggle to survive in the midst of war and food shortages in the '90s, Saddam Hussein demands that every school in the country bake a cake to celebrate his birthday. Nine-year-old Lamia is tasked with bringing a cake to school for the president's mandatory birthday celebration. Against a backdrop of crippling poverty and food shortages, she travels from the countryside to the city, desperately searching for the necessary ingredients.
