Painting Dhaka + Festival Opening

NL: Een kunstproject in de sloppenwijken van Bangladesh en de vraag: Hoe corrupt is onze kijk op een corrupt land? Deze film neemt de kijker op verschillende manieren mee naar een van de armste gebieden ter wereld: de sloppenwijken van Dhaka, de hoofdstad van Bangladesh.

In een mix van documentaire, animatie en kunstfilm duikt verteller en hoofdrolspeler Lukas Zeilinger steeds verder in het moeras van armoede, corruptie en onderdrukking, waarbij hij het falende politieke systeem van het land blootlegt. Wat begint als een verslag van een graffiti-workshop in de sloppenwijken van Dhaka, ontwikkelt zich tot een ware documentaire thriller over het echte probleem van het land: de corrupte elite van Bangladesh, die zich verrijkt met de armoede van haar inwoners. In het middelpunt van de actie staat de staatsspoorwegmaatschappij Bangladesh Railway. Een film over macht en onmacht - en hoe die te overwinnen. En een persoonlijke film over de kracht van kunst.

Het festival wordt tijdens deze vertoning feestelijk geopend door de bijzondere performance van ontwerpers Thomas & Jurgen waarin de openingstitels live worden gecreëerd.

ENG: An art project in the slums of Bangladesh and the question: How corrupted is our view of a corrupt country? The film takes the viewer on different narrative levels on a journey to one of the poorest areas in the world: the slums of Bangladesh's capital Dhaka. 

In a mixture of documentary, animation and art film, narrator and main protagonist Lukas Zeilinger delves further and further into the quagmire of poverty, corruption and oppression, entertainingly exposing the country's broken political system. What begins as a cinematic accompaniment to a graffiti workshop in the slums of Dhaka evolves over the course of the plot into a veritable documentary thriller about the country's real quagmire: the corrupt Bangladeshi elite, which enriches itself from the poverty of its inhabitants. A film about power and powerlessness - and how to overcome both. And a personal film about the power of art.

The festival will be opened during this screening by the special performance by designers Thomas & Jurgen in which the opening titles are created live.
